About the Ipswich Hospital Band
The Ipswich Hospital Band (IHB) was started in 1976 with 4 musicians who worked at Ipswich Hospital and has grown from strength to strength over the years. We now have two other bands in the IHB family – St Peter’s Band (SPB) and Saints Community Band with over 100 members across the three bands.
We have around 45 members in IHB. They are an eclectic group of musicians with varying backgrounds and abilities but all share the love of playing music to appreciative audiences. The Band rehearses on Tuesday evenings at St Peter’s by the Waterfront in Ipswich, from 7:30 to 9:30pm.
IHB is a busy working band and during a normal year would typically have a Spring or Autumn Concert, always supporting a local health related charity, as well as playing at various fetes and other outside events, such as Heveningham Hall Country Fair and in Christchurch Park during their summer concert season. The band also does other indoor jobs during the year in churches, community centres and similar venues. Our annual Christmas Concert and Remembrance Concert at St Peter’s by the Waterfront is alternated between the IHB and SPB.
The whole organisation (the Bands and St Peter’s by the Waterfront) is run by a Board of Directors. We hold 5 or 6 meetings a year and we like the MDs to come along if they can because it helps us all to keep up with things together. MDs are asked to provide a short written report prior to the meetings.
